Let’s go back to Samsung to analyze a new model, a new product from its huge catalog. The product we are analyzing today is the Q80A, a Smart TV available in three sizes: 50.55 and 65 inches. The price on the market places this TV in a medium-high range, will it be money well spent?
As always, before going into the detail of our analysis, let’s quickly check some of the main features of this television, the essential ones to get a quick picture of the situation and the product:
- Screen technology: QLED
- Screen resolution: 4K
- Quantum HDR: Yes
- Operating System: Tizen ™
- Internet and wifi: Yes
- USB ports: 2
- HDMI ports: 4
- Ethernet (LAN): Yes
These are just a few of the myriad specs that modern televisions have, so clearly they’re not a complete picture, but a great overview.
So let’s go into the details of the television we analyze today , Samsung’s Q80A. In doing so, we start with our processor, that is, that small element that manages all the components of the television. In the case of the Samsung product in question, the “dirty” work is done by the Quantum 4K processor. This processor intelligently manages the performance of the Samsung TV, controlling all the functions at 360 degrees: it optimizes images, audio and much more specifically.
The greatest technological attention of the companies on the market is concentrated on the images and its colors. A race to improve the quality of every single pixel more and more. For the Samsung Q80A the technology adopted is the Quantum HDR 12X . The change with this setting is really clear from our tests. Each color seems to find new life compared to previous technologies, but what surprised us is above all the depth of the blacks that become intense and immersive. The difference between a dull black and a real one weighs heavily on the viewing experience, making you completely immerse yourself in a movie or whatever.
The other two technologies that take the field to improve the visual performance of television are: Wide Viewing Angle and Adaptive Picture . Both contribute, along with Quantum HDR, to enhance our experience. The first allows to keep colors and quality unchanged even if viewed from different angles from the front one. The second, on the other hand, is really exceptional in our opinion, that is, it allows the television to automatically adjust the brightness and contrast of the screen based on what is shown, also adapting to the light conditions present in the surrounding environment. So the Samsung Q80A recognizes what the screen is transmitting and adjusts its parameters.
Continuing our analysis, let’s move on to the audio sector of the television in question. It has been well known for years now that the audio part of a television cannot be left behind the image. In the Samsung Q80A product we noticed a particular innovation that pleasantly surprised us. Like its younger brother Q70A , Samsung has also equipped this model with intelligent amplifiers (AVAs) . This technology is able to recognize voices, in films or TV series, and amplifies them allowing us to listen clearly even in the case of annoying b`ackground noises.
Even the “smart” sector of this Samsung television does not seem to set itself limits and indeed presents some interesting technological solutions.
Clearly, as always, the catalog of applications already installed is almost infinite and covers all the most important applications: from the very common streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime , up to social networks. One application we want to highlight is Samsung Health . We have tested and tried it in our use, finding that it allows you, through a webcam (not supplied in the initial equipment), to carry out daily exercises to stay fit and healthy. The application shows both how to do the exercises and a series of important tips from the industry gurus.
The smart component of a television like this obviously does not stop at applications, but embraces a series of interesting functions. Starting from the connection with your smartphone with a single touch, up to the possibility of using the main voice assistants. The possibility of interconnection between the various domestic devices is of vital importance today, so we are pleasantly surprised that Samsung has not left out this detail.
In conclusion, we think that the Samsung Q80A TV is a performing product and suitable for today’s functions. Its price may perhaps be the only sore point, but as anticipated we are talking about a high-end TV, therefore totally justified.
